City of Ouray: Scheduled Water Treatment Facility Tie-Ins

Aslan Construction will conduct the first tie-in to the City’s drinking water supply lines starting Monday, June 17 at approximately 9 PM. The tie-in aims to have as low an impact on community members as possible, with running water still being available during this process. The estimated latest time to be completed with the first tie-in is 6 AM (possibly sooner) the following morning, Tuesday, June 18.

The second, and final, tie-in will start Tuesday, June 18, at approximately 9 PM. The estimated latest time to be completed with this final tie-in is 6 AM (possibly sooner) the following morning, Wednesday, June 19. During these times you may notice a decrease in pressure, large air bubbles, or discoloration in your water. It is advised to run cold water until it becomes clear and until lines are free of air.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: PARTIAL WATER SHUTDOWN PLANNED FOR WATER TREATMENT FACILITY TIE-INS

OURAY, CO | 4:30 PM | The following information was mailed out as a letter to each resident of the City on Friday, May 24. The City of Ouray has a new water treatment facility being built by Aslan Construction. The City is providing early notification that Aslan Construction will conduct a temporary partial shutdown of the drinking water supply lines that feed the City of Ouray. This is necessary to connect the water supply lines to the new water treatment facility. Dates are still to be determined and will be announced on our website (www.cityofouray.com) as quickly as possible. This partial shutdown will occur for two consecutive nights toward the end of June.

The City will perform testing as required per the CDPHE (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment) standards with samples drawn at hydrants downstream of the tie-ins (3 on each pressure zone – East and West) following the water line connections. This will ensure the continued safety of our drinking water supply.

These tie-ins will take place overnight for two consecutive nights to allow for the least impact on our water supply. Here is a list of items to take into consideration before, during, and after the connections take place:

  • Residents are advised not to run water, or to use as little as possible, while the tie-ins are occurring.
  • Be prepared by filling water jugs to flush toilets and have extra water available for drinking.
  • Possibility of discolored water: advise to run cold water until it becomes clear.
  • Possibility of air bubbles in lines: advise to run cold water until lines are free of air.
